Welcome back to the 52-Week Series, where we recap the S&P/ASX 200 stocks that have hit fresh yearly highs and lows over the past week. Tracking this data point helps identify emerging trends across various stocks and sectors.
When clusters of stocks within a sector reach new highs or lows, it often points to powerful underlying drivers — such as shifting commodity prices, changing demand patterns (such as AI, pivots into defensive sectors, consumer weakness etc), or companies beating/missing earnings expectations.

What Does the Data Tell Us?
Geopolitical volatility: The S&P/ASX 200 recorded two fresh all-time highs last week before escalating Middle East conflicts drove the market lower on Thursday and Friday. This late-week weakness meant that most stocks hitting 52-week highs still recorded overall weekly declines.
The ongoing Iran-Israel conflict will likely drive heightened near-term volatility and may obscure the market insights we typically gather from tracking 52-week highs and lows. Despite this volatility, last week continued to highlight persistent strength across the Industrials and Financials sectors.
Despite the market reaching new highs, only 34 S&P/ASX 200 constituents hit record highs—down from 43 the previous week. Real Estate presents another area of interest, with several names including Charter Hall and Vicinity Centres logging their second consecutive week of record highs. This strength may reflect tailwinds from recent cooler-than-expected inflation data, which has driven bond yields lower and provided clearer rate cut expectations.
