Dr FitzGerald has been a Director of ACIL Allen Consulting Group Pty Ltd. From 1989 to 2013 he was a director of a predecessor company - Allen Consulting Group Pty Ltd. Prior to that time, he was a senior government official in Canberra, his career involving assignments in the Treasury, Prime Minister and Cabinet, Finance (Deputy Secretary), Trade (Secretary) and Employment, Education and Training (Secretary). He is part of the superannuation industry in Australia and is a superannuation fund trustee. He was, until April 2018, the President of the Board of Governors of the Australian National University Endowment for Excellence. He was a member of the Victorian State Council of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and for a number of years until 2015 its President and a member of the Institutes national board. He was until July 2017 a director of The Conversation Media Group Limited. He was formerly a director of ING Australia Holdings Limited and Chairman of its Audit and Risk Management Committees. He was previously a director of ETF Securities Limited prior to the sale of its European and U.S. businesses in April 2018.
