KEY POINTS

  • Interesting uptrends in today's Scans: A2 Milk Co (A2M), Adriatic Metals (ADT), Black Canyon (BCA), Breville Group (BRG), Brambles (BXB), Bioxyne (BXN), Nick Scali (NCK), Origin Energy (ORG), Orica (ORI), Qantas (QAN), Resmed (RMD), Wesfarmers (WES).
  • Interesting downtrends in today's Scans: Australian Clinical Labs (ACL), AGL Energy (AGL), Healius (HLS).

Just when you think things might be slowing down just a smidge 🀏, the Aussie stock market goes from sublime to supreme! πŸ†

A new record for the ASX 200 on Thursday, of course, and the first close above 9,000 to boot. But there's also a record here in ChartWatch ASX Scans – the highest ever number of stocks in the Uptrends Scan List (119), and the greatest imbalance between it and a dwindling Downtrends Scan List (7), of a staggering 17 to 1.

FYI, the previous record was set on 18-Aug with 102 to 8 for a ratio of roughly 13:1. Quite simply: It has never been so good for Aussie stocks, and therefore it has never been so good for trend followers! πŸ₯³

A couple of points here... The rising tide does, to a large extent, lift all of ships. So, there are likely a bunch of not very good stocks that are receiving a stay of execution from the Downtrends Scan List, just as much as there's probably a few that are being inflated into the Uptrends Scan Lists.

On the first item, it's a shame, because even in the strongest bull market it's nice to have a few shorts up your sleeve. They'll come in handy when things eventually turn sour (I know! Oh what a pessimist – but let's face it – at some point things always do! 😁).

On the second item, this is where trying to sort the wheat from the chaff and really narrowing down one's options to only the best of the best comes into its own. And that's the really tricky part πŸ€”.

My algorithmic scan narrows the list from about 2200 to that 119 – so that's 95% of ASX stock eliminated straight up. Then, I personally scrutinise each of the shortlist to make the Feature Uptrends List - today's contained 48. So, now we're down to the final 2-odd percent of possibilities. You're welcome πŸ‘.

Unfortunately, there were so many incredible looking charts – so unanimously consistent with total demand-side control – that I couldn't narrow the Feature Uptrends List any further. Or is that fortunately? Probably. I know I'd rather be spoiled for choice (and benefiting from that rising tide) than not!

Welcome to my ChartWatch Daily ASX Scans series. Here, I present scan lists based on my trend following technical analysis methodology. My goal is to alert you to the best uptrends and downtrends on the ASX.

Feel free to get your favourite AI to convert the tables below into lists you can upload to your favourite trading platform like TradingView. Then you'll be able to skip from chart to chart and quickly and easily see the best uptrends and downtrends on the ASX.

Some investors prefer to buy those stocks in strong uptrends, and avoid, sell, or short sell those stocks in strong downtrends – but how you use the lists is really up to you!

Note, many stocks in both lists have appeared there many times before. As long as they keep meeting my criteria – they'll keep appearing. But note, there won't be any notifications when they don't – so you'll have to do your own research on when a particular trend changes!

Important considerations when using the ChartWatch Daily ASX Scans:
1. The future is unknown. Anything can happen to change the trends in the lists above. A stock in a perfect uptrend or downtrend may not remain that way by the close of trading today. 2. These lists are not exhaustive, they are curated by Carl. You will find that certain stocks might not appear in a particular list on consecutive days but might reappear when Carl feels it deserves to return to the list. 3. This is not a recommendation service, merely an aid to help you better understand the workings of Carl’s technical analysis model in a practical way. Carl will not alert you to stocks that have dropped off a list because their trend has changed – it's up to you to apply the criteria to determine why a particular stock might not still be included. 4. This is general, educational information only – so always do your own research!!!
