Frontier Energy (ASX:FHE) has appointed ATCO’s former head of hydrogen strategy, Sam Lee Mohan, whose works were ultimately crucial in establishing ATCO’s functioning hydrogen microgrid. Mohan has also worked as global head of hydrogen at Xodus Group, owned by Subsea 7.
Mohan’s appointment as MD comes as the company’s Bristol Springs project gets underway; a solar farm in WA’s southwest which will power an electrolyser to produce green hydrogen at its acreage south of Perth.
Mohan will step into the executive role overseeing the project which is just now kicking off.
Last month, Frontier minted a deal with WA state utility Water Corporation to allow the former access to the water needed to power electrolyser machines, which ultimately turn water into hydrogen gas.
The question of what makes hydrogen ‘green’ is where the power you use to split the water molecules in the first place comes from. If it’s renewables, it’s considered green hydrogen.
While Frontier had always had access to multiple water sources due to its ideal location in WA’s south west in an industrial area, the company has now locked in its decision to access scheme water via a major water pipeline called the Stirling Trunk.
“Given the relative infancy of the hydrogen industry, to attract someone of Mohan’s vast experience in a competitive landscape shows the potential he could see at Bristol Springs,” Frontier chair Grant Davey said.
“While Mohan’s experience is clear, I believe his biggest attribute is the energy he will bring to the team.”
“I look forward to working closely with Sam in the years ahead.”
