ASX TODAY

  • Very quiet on the announcement front, a few quarterly reports from Rio Tinto, Evolution and Lynas, which we'll break down in the blog

WHAT TO WATCH TODAY

  • A broad selloff: Very heavy overnight session, featuring all the bearish stuff (VIX spike, higher yields, crypto/growth/tech weakness etc). Plenty of overnight ETFs down 2-3%, while S&P 500 sectors like Communication Services, Financials, Discretionary and Tech all down more than 2%.

  • Gold and silver: Massive overnight moves with gold up 3.5% to US$4,759 and silver up 5.0% to US$94. NYSE-listed Newmont shares rallied 4.2% (not much intraday movement after the gap) to close at fresh all-time highs.

  • Holding up: Copper stocks held up relatively well overnight despite a 1.2% fall in copper prices. Lithium stocks also higher after Chinese lithium carbonate futures hit limit up (up 9% to 160,500 yuan a tonne) on Tuesday.
