Mr Hill is the founder of Michael Hill, and his leadership has been the foundation for the Company's international expansion. Sir Michael had 23 years of jewelry retailing experience before establishing Michael Hill in 1979, which then listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange in 1987. Sir Michael led the Group as Chairman from 1987 until 2015 and was appointed a Director of the Company on 9 June 2016, having served as Director of Michael Hill's listed entity since its initial listing on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Sir Michael was appointed Founder President of the New Zealand listed entity in 2015 in recognition of his special connection with Michael Hill for over 35 years.
