Hon McGrady was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in 1989 as the Member for Mount Isa after 16 years from 1973 as an Alderman on the Mount Isa City Council and as Mayor for the last five years. Tony was Minister for Mines and Energy from 1998 to 2001, moving to Police and Corrective Services in 2001 and then to State Development and Innovation in 2004. He was subsequently elected as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in 2005 and retained that role until his retirement from State politics in 2006. He currently chairs the Queensland Premier's Ambassadors Council, the CopperString Regional Reference Group and LifeFlight's Advisory Committee for the North-West Region.
