Mr Ellis is an experienced mining executive with over 30 years of experience in geology, exploration, mine planning and project development in Australia and overseas. He was a founding member and Executive Director of Excel Coal Limited which was the subject of a take-over bid by the US coal giant Peabody Energy Inc, and has held senior positions within Shell Coal's Exploration, BP Coal (London and USA), Agipcoal Australia and the Stratford Joint Venture.
