Commodities
Nickel (Ni) is a silvery-white lustrous metal with a slight golden tinge.
The use of nickel has been traced as far back as 3500 BCE and had origins as a currency, especially in the United States.
The major use for nickel today is to produce stainless steel, which accounts for 68% of global production. In recent times there has been a resurgence in the nickel price due to derived demand in batteries for electric vehicles.
The largest nickel producers in the world come from Indonesia, Philippines, Russia, New Caledonia and Australia, with the biggest consumer being China.
The Nickel spot price is recorded daily on the London Metals Exchange (LME).
