Lead is a soft, malleable, grayish metal thats widely used for car batteries, pigments and ammunition. Its density and ability to absorb vibration make it an excellent shield against radiation.

65% of lead consumption is used in the automotive sector as replacement batteries or original batteries for new vehicles, according to Wood MacKenzie (2021). All commercially produced electric vehicles contain 12V lead-acid batteries.

The world's largest lead producers are China and Australia, followed by the US and Peru.

Lead futures can be traded on the London Metals Exchange (LME).
